Modern modular steel construction extends historic Georgian terrace.

Brief

The brief was to extend a Georgian Terrace in the historic city of York. LGSF was asked to provide a high quality solution within a relatively tight timeframe. Restricted access to the city location meant that time onsite had to minimal.

Solution

LGSF worked closely with the client’s architect and structural engineer and it was agreed that pre-assembled panels would provide the ideal solution. The steel panels not only provided the structural strength required for the 4-storey building but also the flexibility to meet an innovative design brief.

Accuracy and the excellent buildability properties of LGSF panels ensured that the structure was suitable to accept traditional internal and external finishes, ensuring the project critical path was adhered to and time onsite in York was kept to a minimum.

Insulation, blockwork and rendering were added externally to the metal framework to ensure this new end of terrace was in keeping with the original, adjoining Georgian houses.

Results

  • Quick supply of accurate, consistently high quality panels with excellent buildability properties ensured the project met critical deadlines
  • Flexible product supporting creative and innovative designs
  • Storey height panels were delivered onsite and the floors as cassettes fitted between the walls, speeding the main structural phase and taking the external finishes of the critical path to keep time onsite to a minimum
