Hinkley Point in Somerset is the first nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years and when fully operational will provide low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes. During the construction phase good quality accommodation was needed to house around 1500 key workers on site.
LGSF was asked by a modular building contractor to provide the self-assemble wall, floor and ceiling infill panels to feed their assembly line which was dedicated to producing 3 storey modular accommodation and communal areas. Reliable supply was fundamental to the tight deadlines of this major project. Around 950 steel framed modules were produced from LGSF stick build module packs. During fit-out they were clad with natural timber and stone-effect cement to ensure the facades were sympathetic to the natural surroundings. They were then transported to Hinkley Point where they were erected and stacked on site.
Once the construction phase is complete the flexibility of the building allows the bedroom blocks to be easily converted into office space.
